Augsburg is over 2000 years old and people like the Fuggers, Mozart, Bert Brecht are citizens of Augsburg. The engineer Rudolf Diesel is among the city's most famous sons. Additionally to buildings from the Gothic, Renaissance and Classicism periods, Augsburg also has buildings from the modern era.

The Augsburg Congress Hall (today: "Kongress am Park") was planned in 1972 by the Stuttgart architect Max Speidel and built in the Wittelsbacher Park. It was built in the architectural style known today as Brutalism (Brutalism derives from the French "Béton Brut", which means unplastered exposed concrete). At the same time, the 158-metre high hotel tower (nowadays also very famous) was built next to the congress hall.

This reinforced concrete construction affected the citizens neither "yesterday" nor today. Because not everyone enjoys the compact buildings of the 70s – also known as "concrete bunkers". There are some brutalist buildings in Bavaria, one of the most striking and famous buildings of post-war modernism is undisputedly the Congress Hall in Augsburg, which nowadays is one of the listed buildings.

Between 2010 and 2012, the building was cleared of the plant greenery that had almost completely overgrown the structure and, therefore, was completely renovated. Under the leadership of the Max Speidel successor office of the architects Hans Schuller and Gerhard Tham, around 21 million euros were needed for the renovation, in order to meet the highest standards regarding energy and safety.

Augsburger Kongresshalle

Two large congress and concert rooms (with large mechanical Steinmeyer organs), two foyers and seven smaller event rooms could be used again for meetings, conferences, music events and trade fairs.

In 2020, the beautiful parquet floors of the large congress and concert halls (capacity for almost 2000 people) were sanded and newly sealed.

The 800 m2 large and unusual oak strip parquet which was laid with a cube pattern was installed by Fußboden Hörmann GmbH & Co. KG from Affing and then sealed 2x with IRSA Holzsiegel 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat (IRSA Wood Sealer 2010 VOC High Solid) (per application 130 g/m2).

The traditional company Fußboden Hörmann GmbH & Co. KG is a master craftsman's business in Affing near Augsburg, which is family-run in the 2nd generation. Wolfgang Hörmann decided to protect the heavily used surface with the ready-to-use IRSA Holzsiegel 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat (IRSA Wood Sealer 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat).

The IRSA product chosen for the Augsburg Congress Hall is a solvent-based one-component urethane alkyde resin sealer on the basis of vegetable raw materials, produced with de-aromatised hydrocarbons. IRSA HOLZSIEGEL 2010 VOC High SOLID, silky-mat (IRSA WOOD SEALER 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat, is used for normal to heavily stressed soft, hard and exotic woods indoors (e.g. parquet, planks, stairs, upright lamellas, wood block pavings, wood floors with underfloor heating, swing floors, suitable for gymnasiums in accordance with DIN 18032 Part 2). The product is environmentally-friendly and an emission-tested building product (certified in accordance with DIBT Directives: Z-157.10-92).

It was easily decided to use this IRSA product because of the special technical advantages of IRSA Holzsiegel 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat (IRSA Wood Sealer 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat).

Wolfgang Hörmann also knows that the product is an all-round problem solver, not only when it comes to a wide range of possible applications and the excellent price-performance ratio.

You can protect e.g. critical woods, exotic woods, the highly absorbent hardwood beech or fruitwoods that tend to discolour with only 2 coats (approx. 100-120μ of dry film with a total of 260g/m2 liquid varnish application). Normal to heavily stressed new and old wood floors, even those that tend to swell and shrink more (sprung floors, wood-block paving, planks, etc.), are optimally protected with IRSA Holzsiegel 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat (IRSA Wood Sealer 2010 VOC High Solid, silky-mat).

The sealing has a natural mat finish and is very popular because of its honey-coloured sparkle. The application of IRSA Wood Sealer 2010 VOC High Solid causes only very little swelling of the wood, which is why it is used especially for floors that are to be restored, with old adhesive beds that are no longer fully functional. The product is tested according to DIN 18032 part 2 (sliding friction value), therefore the varnish is also very suitable for gymnasiums and sports halls.

Thanks to these excellent properties, you save working time and thus money - the product also convinces with its attractive price.

Further care and cleaning of IRSA Wood Seal 2010 VOC High Solid, silk matt, is carried out with our coordinated care and cleaning products, e.g. with the self-shining IRSA Aqua Star or the matt IRSA Aqua Star R9.
