An architectural masterpiece in the Allgaeu: From the unimpressive sixties house to the timelessly elegant villa on the lake

Over the years, the walnut wood bleached unevenly, so that renovation became necessary. Klaus Kehrbaum decided to use a darker colour, so that the grading of the wood is more even.

The optimum change or colouring of the old walnut parquet was finally achieved with IRSA Platinum 2C Öl-Grundierung (IRSA Platinum 2K Oil Primer), dark brown (special colour). Architect Klaus Kehrbaum decided to have the coloured floor sealed with IRSA Platinum 2C Nature Feeling extremely-mat, in order to achieve the most possible natural effect. The work was carried out by master parquet layer Hans Seitz.

In 2002, architect Klaus Kehrbaum decided to buy and convert the inconspicuous apartment building from the sixties. The building is located directly on a biotope with exposed mountain views. One year later, the elegant and timeless villa with its enchanting garden in Kaufbeuren (Allgäu) could be admired.

Kehrbaum completely restructured the massive construction with solid bulkhead construction. Slate on the facades and roof gives the house an elegant coat of paint. To the east and south, i.e. towards the water and the mountain panorama, the house is openly glazed in classic white. "Drawers" pushed out at right angles enclose an atrium garden with a pool and a Japanese style garden - a beautiful interpretation of the garden as a place of peace and meditation.

Two apartments for children, a guest apartment, a large living room with kitchen and an evening area on the ground floor with bedroom, bathroom, second living room and wellness area with a total of 350 m2 of living space have been created in this way. A twenty meter long light ditch illuminates the entrance area and the corridor, which is designed with slate flooring. Klaus Kehrbaum chose walnut parquet for the floor design in the other light-flooded rooms.

Hans Seitz is a carpenter and master parquet layer and has specialised in the laying of solid parquet floors, as well as the renovation and repair of all types of wooden floors. High quality materials and a precise working method are important for him. Patiently he developed together with IRSA the suitable colour shade for the old walnut parquet. A real challenge, as every colour changes immediately when it is sealed.

Optimum modification of old walnut parquet with IRSA Platinum 2C Öl-Grundierung (IRSA Platinum 2C Oil Primer) and IRSA Platinum Nature Feeling extremely-mat.

A dark brown special colour tone of IRSA Platinum 2C Platinum Öl-Grundierung (IRSA Platinum 2K oil primer) was created, to match the wood indoors. This oil primer was then protected with IRSA Platinum Nature Feeling, to give it an extremely mat finish.

As the surface should have a mat effect in the long term, care and maintenance is carried out exclusively with IRSA Aqua Star R9 (diluted application, has a mat effect).

IRSA Platinum 2C Öl-Grundierung (IRSA Platinum 2C Oil Primer) is a 2-component high-solid oil combination with natural oils, cross-linking and oxidative drying with the addition of IRSA Platinum Öl Härter (IRSA Platinum Oil Hardener). They are available in colourless, white, black, light grey, teak, anthracite, wenge, oak, mud/plating grey. Special colours are available on request.

IRSA Platinum 2C Öl-Grundierung (IRSA Platinum 2C Oil Primer) is suitable for sanded wooden and parquet floors, including planks and final sanded multi-layer parquet elements. The consumption is approx. 30-80 g/m2 per application, depending on the absorbency of the wood.
The product is very popular because it is easy to apply. Even colouring is very easy with IRSA Platinum 2C Öl-Grundierung (IRSA Platinum 2C Oil Primer).

The colour primer is over-sealable with all IRSA Platinum 2C water-based varnishes (IRSA Platinum 2C 3010 silky-mat, IRSA Platinum 2C 3030 ultra, IRSA Platinum 3055 high gloss, IRSA Platinum 2 K Nature Feeling extreme matt).

Architect Klaus Kehrbaum used IRSA Platinum 2C Nature Feeling extremely-mat, in order to achieve the most possible natural effect.

IRSA Platinum 2C Nature Feeling, extremely-mat, provides an extremely mat and natural wood appearance, i.e. almost invisible, when it is applied directly onto untreated wood.

Light or dark coloured surfaces receive a very natural surface with the extremely mat 2C water-based varnish sealing - even with many sealing layers.

IRSA Platinum Nature Feeling 2-component polyurethane waterborne varnish extreme mat has additionally to its extraordinary wear and scratch resistance, a high abundance and is therefore ideally suited for floors with normal to very heavy stress, such as parquet, wood and bamboo floors, OSB boards or stairs in living areas, public buildings, schools or offices.

The sealing layer does not yellow, which is especially important for light-coloured surfaces, as an unattractive yellowish effect is avoided even over time. The closed varnish film is water-resistant even after prolonged exposure to water and is convincing due to its good resistance to household chemicals.
